The Power of our Attitude
In order to live a happy and healthy life we need to discover the vital truth of two words.
Attitude and Gratitude
YOUR ATTITUDE CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOU, HEAL OR HURT YOU, MAKE YOU FRIENDS OR MAKE YOU ENEMIES, MAKE YOU HAPPY OR MAKE YOU MISERABLE, MAKE YOU A SUCCESS OR MAKE YOU A FAILURE.
If you want things to be different in your life. . .the number one thing you need to change is not your job, circumstances, environment, relationships or income. . .it’s YOU. You must first change your attitude.
Gratitude is very significant because to live on this planet is a grace and blessing. Many people live narrow, bitter frustrated lives; they live defensively because they have adopted a pessimistic and ungrateful attitude toward life. All of us have challenges in life, but the person with an ungrateful attitude becomes a magnet for the unpleasant. Attitude of gratitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.
Attitude is a mental state relative to what we believe and affects our entire lives. We express our attitude in our words and actions. It is a habitual way of thinking that can either lean towards an optimistic or pessimistic viewpoint. The best way to develop a positive mental attitude is to develop an intimacy with God and surround yourself with good books, good people and good environment. Godly people have a magnetic influence, which attracts help and support that assist them in achieving their goals. They have developed an ‘I can do all things through the grace of God attitude and a resilient nature that propels them forward.
Our attitude is a result our core values, convictions and Belief. Core values and convictions are revealed by our daily actions why what we actually believe and do. Core values and convictions make up what we call our “mental map” Everyone has a mental map about the way we think things really are and the way life really works. My actions are always the result of my purposes and core values and convictions. That means we have to become a student of our own behavior to find out what we really believe. Our convictions lie deep within us and you can see what we believe if you look at the way, we live. Our behavior calls into question what we really believe about God.
If we claim to believe God is always present and watching, why do we push aside convictions when we want to? True faith means loving the truth more than we love ourselves. True faith involves certain beliefs. True faith involves an attitude of hope and confidence and it its core, faith trusts the Lord Jesus and His word. Attitude creates your world and designs your future. It determines your success or failure in any venture in life. Some people who claim to be believers are selfish, greedy, and judgmental. Others are humble and generous. Both may say they trust God. However, their mental maps—their core convictions about the way things really are—are night and day away from each other and produce two different kinds of attitudes. The distinguishing factor between a true believer and a carna believer is attitude.
The greatest discovery of our generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitude of mind." Our attitude determines our eternal destiny. God wants to alter our attitudes and set our hearts on the truth. Bible says “Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] (Philippians 2:5)
There is nothing as powerful as attitude. Attitude dictates your response to the present and determines the quality of your future. You are your attitude, and your attitude is your history and your attitude will be your Destiny. If you do not control your attitude, it will control you. Change you negative attitudes to positive ones, and you can change your world. Your attitude is determined by the collection of the dominant thoughts in your mind.
So in determining the proper kind of attitude for change . . . we must look at the Bible: In Philippians 2:5 says “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” and Philippians 4:8-9 says Meditate on Virtuous Things . What we put into our minds determines what comes out in our words and actions. Bible tells us to program our minds with thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. Do you have problems with impure thoughts and daydreams? Examine what you are putting into your mind through television, books, conversations, movies and magazines. Replace harmful input with wholesome material. Above all, read God’s Word and pray. Ask God to help you focus your mind on what is good and pure. It takes practice, but it can be done. Our thought life determines our action life. If your output is questionable, then surely the input has to be changed. Make sure it is pleasing to God.
